The Spiritual Story
The spiritual journey is what our faith is all about, and it is revealed in Jesus. We are called to follow Jesus, for he said, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” John 14v6.
The spiritual journey is revealed in the life of Jesus from birth.
Birth and Escape
As followers of Jesus, we are on a spiritual journey. Our spiritual testimony begins with new birth.
Jesus said,
“Truly, truly, I say to you, unless one is born again he cannot see the kingdom of God.” — John 3v3.
New birth comes through faith in Jesus, and by repentance.
Repentance is how we put our faith into action. Faith without deeds is dead, so we cannot share in the spiritual testimony of Jesus without making real change. It is by repentance that we escape the dragon of sin.
Jesus was perfect, he had no sin to repent of, so when he was a baby he demonstrated repentance symbolically as he escaped King Herod and the slaughter of the infants. Then to confirm his symbolic act of repentance, after waiting for the ‘Old Man’ to die, “Out of Egypt God called his son.” — Mat 2v15
By waiting for King Herod to die Jesus was symbolically performing the act of repentance. As we are told to put to death the old man, and to put on the new man. (Romans 6v6-23, 8v13, Ephesians 4v22, Colossians 3v5).
Once we are walking in obedience to God we are ready and able to serve God. So after King Herod had died, God said, ‘Out of Egypt I called my son son’ — to serve.
The journey of life
A blessed life and a powerful ministry flows on from that moment of new birth. As we continue in obedience to Jesus, putting off the desires of the flesh and becoming more and more like Christ, we are able to serve God.
We enjoy a blessed life, and we have a powerful ministry if we are walking with Jesus. The true journey of faith is not necessarily outwardly visible. The kingdom of God is within us. While it is not outwardly visible, as we fellowship with each other, those who are born again can and do see it (John 3v3).
We live in God’s blessing enjoying the fruit of the spirit; love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. (Galatians 5v22).
We build each other up in love and good deeds, thereby storing up treasures in heaven. The glory and honour of the nations will be brought into the kingdom of heaven, (Rev 21v26). The things of this world are passing away, but the glory and honour of the nations are the people of God.
Death and Resurrection
We must follow Jesus all the way, and that includes through death and resurrection.
“...it is appointed for man to die once, and after that comes judgment” — Hebrews 7v27
We must put off the mortal and put on immortality, and this happens at the end. Death is the greater battle, the ultimate battle with the flesh. Death is the true battle of Armageddon. We all fight that battle in the end, and those who are in Christ will be victorious.
Jesus defeated sin and death at the cross, and if we continue in Him until the end we will share in his victory.
We will enter into glory in him.
We will Cross 2 Victory.
As we follow Jesus in the spirit and truth — through new birth, during our life and ministry until death and resurrection, he lives in us and we reveal him to others. The testimony of our own lives forms a narrative that resembles the life of Jesus — as long as we continue faithfully, in obedience to him.
The Bible is God’s divinely inspired word of God, and the word itself is Jesus (John 1v1). Much of the Bible is made up of typological stories that foreshadowed Jesus. When Jesus himself came he fulfilled the law and the prophets perfectly, but without abolishing them. He let them remain because now they are for us to fulfil in spirit and truth.
To understand the spiritual story, and to act on it is much more important than understanding the prophetic apocalyptic end times story. End times prophecy will have temporal value when it is correctly understood, but if we understand the spiritual journey correctly, and if we are being led by God’s spirit, and are travelling well with Jesus on that journey, our eternity is secure.
Why Prophecy?
All God’s people understand that the spiritual journey is the most important journey. But for various reasons I am often asked, why concern ourselves with end times prophecy?
The answer is simple. If the apocalyptic journey of the end times begins, we are going to need to be ready to look after each other.
The reply often comes: “But should we be doing that anyway?”
Yes, of course. But if the signs that I’m presenting are truly pointing to the end times birth, and if we are indeed about to experience a full scale nuclear war sometime around 2024, we are going to need to do a lot more to look after each other than what we’d normally do.
If you know Jesus and understand the spiritual journey, please also pay attention to the apocalyptic. God really can and does still act in history.
God chooses to use us as his servants to bring the words of eternal life to the lost, and in this way the Kingdom of God continues to grow. But when the appointed time comes for God to act apocalyptically, he does real miracles through those who believe and who are willing to act.
The end times birth will be our opportunity to help many many people make a miraculous escape from the dragon of nuclear war. While this is not actually the same as true spiritual repentance, it is the most powerful demonstration of repentance possible in a symbolic or apocalyptic form.
The ministry of the church in the last days will continue after ww3 with the power of Moses and Elijah. The war will be a Pentecost moment to us, and our ministry will continue until the generation that Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24v34 has fulfilled all prophecy again, in a way that resembles the life of Jesus, just as the early church did.
The spiritual journey is the true journey, but when the appointed time comes for an apocalyptic journey to begin, the two journeys will take place simultaneously.
